By car

Simplest if you travel as a family, with equipment or with a dog.

The E14 runs the length of the Åre valley and takes you all the way. Björnen lies east of Åre village, and the final stretch is a ploughed residential road, not a steep mountain pass.

The lodge has private parking with EV charging. Winter tyres are a legal requirement in Sweden in winter conditions, and mountain roads can be temporarily affected by snow clearing or weather.

  1. 1.From Östersund: E14 westbound, approx. 90 km.
  2. 2.From Stockholm: approx. 600 km, normally a full day of driving.
  3. 3.From Trondheim, Norway: E14 eastbound across the border at Storlien.
  4. 4.Final stretch: exit the E14 towards Björnen, then local roads to the lodge.

By train

Åre has its own station in the middle of the village, with day and night trains year-round.

SJ runs both day trains and night trains between Stockholm and Åre. A day train takes roughly seven hours; the night train around nine hours and arrives in the morning. Norrtåg serves Östersund–Åre–Storlien during the day.

The train is often the most comfortable option if you prefer to travel without a car. Skis and bikes can be carried, and it is only a short transfer from the station to Björnen.

  1. 1.Book to Åre station (not Duved or Undersåker).
  2. 2.Åre station to Björnen is approx. 7 km.
  3. 3.In winter, ski bus lines 702 and 704 run between Åre travel centre and Björnen. The nearest stop is Åre Björnen Centrum, 1.3 km from the lodge – about a 15-minute walk or 3 minutes by car.
  4. 4.Year-round, regular regional buses and taxis serve the station.

By air via Åre Östersund Airport

The nearest airport is about 90 km and a one-hour drive away.

Åre Östersund Airport (OSD) on Frösön has domestic flights year-round and charter traffic in parts of the season. Swedavia states approximately one hour of travel time between the airport and Åre.

Car hire is available at the airport, along with taxis and – during the ski season – pre-booked Flygtaxi transfer directly to Åre. Airport bus line 4 goes to Östersund city centre, not to Åre.

  1. 1.Fly to Åre Östersund Airport (OSD).
  2. 2.Hire a car at the airport, or pre-book a transfer or taxi.
  3. 3.Drive the E14 west towards Åre and on to Björnen, about one hour.
  4. 4.Alternatively: bus or taxi to Östersund C and continue by train to Åre station.
