Getting here without a car

The train to Åre station is the simplest car-free arrival.

SJ runs day and night trains between Stockholm and Åre year round, and Norrtåg serves Östersund–Åre–Storlien during the day. The night train arrives in the morning, so the first day in the mountains is still usable.

From Åre station it is roughly 7 km to Björnen. In winter you take the ski bus; year round there are regional buses and taxis. Skis and bicycles can travel with you on the train — check space and rules when booking.

  1. 1.Book the train to Åre station (not Duved or Undersåker).
  2. 2.Winter: ski bus line 702 or 704 to Åre Björnen Centrum.
  3. 3.Year round: regional bus or taxi from the station.
  4. 4.From the Åre Björnen Centrum stop it is 1.3 km to the lodge, about a 15-minute walk.

Getting around during your stay

In winter the ski bus links Björnen, Åre village and the lift system.

During the ski season the ski bus runs between Björnen, Åre village and Duved. A valid Åre SkiPass is accepted as a ticket on lines 701–704, so no separate bus ticket is needed for those services.

Björnen is ski in / ski out, so you reach the slope directly from the lodge and need no transport to ski. The bus is mainly for getting into Åre village for restaurants and evening activities.

  1. 1.Skiing: straight from the lodge, no transport needed.
  2. 2.To Åre village: ski bus from Åre Björnen Centrum, or taxi.
  3. 3.Evenings: check the last departure before heading into the village.
  4. 4.Book taxis in advance, especially in high season and late at night.

Summer and autumn without a car

The green season needs more planning — the ski bus does not run.

Outside the ski season there is no ski bus. Regional bus lines and taxis remain, with less frequent departures than in winter. Hiking trails and bike trails start in the area, but longer trips around the Åre valley require a bus or taxi.

Guests working remotely or staying longer often combine train travel here with occasional taxi rides, and shop for the whole stay on arrival.

  1. 1.Check the regional summer timetable before you travel.
  2. 2.Plan your grocery shopping on arrival, ideally in Åre village.
  3. 3.Pre-book taxis for excursions and the return journey.
  4. 4.Bicycles can be rented in Åre, which makes the area easy to move around in summer.
